Here’s what Mitch Johnson and Stephon Castle had to say after the Spurs’ home loss to Charlotte.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs lost to the Charlotte Hornets 145-134 at home. The Hornets connected on a franchise-record 26 three-point shots.
Keldon Johnson scored 12 points, and Chris Paul had three points and three assists. Devin Vassell added 23 points and three rebounds. Stephon Castle finished with 26, and Harrison Barnes recorded 10. Jeremy Sochan added 14 points and five rebounds.
Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox are out for the season due to injury. Charles Bassey did not play due to a knee injury.
The Spurs are 27-38 this season and will take on the Pelicans on Saturday night in San Antonio.
Here’s a sample of what the Spurs said after the game.
Mitch Johnson:
“Tip your cap in terms of just they (Hornets) were prepared, they executed, and they played very clean games. You obviously tip the cap, but very disappointed on a few different levels. And I think just when you zoom out and say 81 points and two quarters and five fouls committed by us in those two quarters, there’s some level of resistance or lack thereof, whether that, excuse me, physicality, connectedness, but the fact that they got that many shots off clean.”
“I just thought our close ops weren’t aggressive enough. I feel like that led to them (Hornets) kind of getting the rhythm early, seeing some shots going in early, and then obviously spark a good shooting night for them.”
