A south-side family’s home was destroyed by fire after an overheated generator sparked a blaze, displacing them and causing damage to nearby properties.
SAN ANTONIO — A family on the south side will have to find a new place to live after their home was destroyed in a house fire Thursday night, fire crews say.
The fire started just before 10 p.m. at home on East Malone Street, just west of Concepcion Park. When firefighters arrived on the scene, there were flames coming from the back of the house.
Investigators say the house had no running water and was being rented out by a mother of two. The renters had been using a gas-powered generator for months for their electricity. Fire crews say the generator overheated, sparking the fire.
No one was injured by there was some minor damage to a neighbor’s car. The fire also melted the neighbor’s blines and burned some of the his fence.
The house is believed to be a total loss.
