Houston businessman returns to Hill Country to give away mattresses to flood victims

Mattress Mack will be in Ingram on Saturday giving away mattresses to victims and first responders impacted by the flooding on July Fourth.

INGRAM, Texas — A famous Houston-area businessman is once again stepping up to support flood victims and first responders in Kerr County by giving away more mattresses for those in need.

Jim McIngvale, who Texans know as Mattress Mack, is giving away 500 mattresses to help them get a good night’s sleep.

This time he’s extending the mattress giveaway to the first responders and volunteers who played a critical role in the flood relief efforts, as well as victims and volunteers.

The giveaway is Saturday at City West Church in Ingram from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m., or until all mattresses are gone.

Every house can get one mattress, you just have to bring your license and show you live in a zip code impacted by the flood. First responders are also asked to bring an ID.

They will be giving away twin-sized, queen-sized, and king-sized mattresses until they run out. They also have sheet kits, so you will need to bring a truck or van to pick everything up.

It has now been over two months since the deadly Fourth of July floods and McIngvale says they want to let the Hill Country know they’re not forgotten.

“We care about them,” said McIngvale. “That’s what Texans are all about, is, caring for other people. People ask why we do this? Because these are our people and we’re here that they they would help us if we were in this situation. So we’re going to help them. Sleep is critical to recovery from trauma. And if you’re not sleeping on it, good matches, you’re going to sleep poorly. So we think we’re doing something that’ll help people and help them, gradually recover from this horrific event.”

Mcingvale says donors helped make it possible to buy extra mattresses for this giveaway.

The mattresses will be given out on a first come, first served basis.
