Houston travelers injured as flight takes unexpected detour—what went wrong?

After landing, medical personnel met and evaluated passengers. Five injured passengers were transported to the hospital.

HOUSTON — A flight from Springfield, Missouri to Houston was forced to make an emergency landing in Waco Sunday night due to turbulence.

SkyWest flight 5690, operating as United Express, landed safely at Waco Regional Airport, according to a statement from SkyWest Airlines.

Waco Regional Airport interim Director of Aviation Michael Reisman told our sister station, KCEN-TV, that 35 people were on board that flight to George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

After landing, medical personnel met and evaluated passengers. Five injured passengers were transported to the hospital.  A spokesperson for the Waco Fire Department said the injuries were not life-threatening.

SkyWest and United said they were “working to line up new transportation and options for everyone on this flight.” It is unclear if passengers were rebooked on another flight or provided alternative travel arrangements.

The flight, originally scheduled to arrive at Bush Airport at 11:53 p.m. Sunday, instead landed at 1:45 a.m. early Monday
