The Alamo City, it turns out, is one of the NCAA’s favorite Final Four host cities.
SAN ANTONIO — With the Final Four making its return to San Antonio, the NCAA continues sending a message that it’s conveyed for the past few decades now: When it comes to Texas host cities, the association doesn’t appear to like any one of them more than the Alamo City.
2025 marks the fifth time the men’s tournament has culminated in San Antonio, and the eighth time overall when it comes to both men’s and women’s Final Fours. That’s nearly as many as occasions as the other Texas cities hosting Final Fours combined (10), and San Antonio doubles up Houston, which has hosted Final Fours a total of four times.
You can imagine why San Antonio is a fit: The close proximity of prime venue locations like the convention center, Tower Park and the Alamodome means fans can park in one place and get wherever they need to go over the course of a day on foot. Add in the proximity of the River Walk, the reliably warm climate and the Alamodome’s immense capacity, and you’ve got the elements of a reliable host city.
The Dallas/Arlington area has hosted four Final Four Fours, while Austin has two years as host under its belt too, both in the women’s tournament.
San Antonio will add to its count before long: The women’s Final Four returns to the Alamodome in 2029 for the first time since the pandemic forced a more limited celebration in 2021.
Here are all the years San Antonio has hosted the Final Four:
