How ‘the Grinch’ helped man propose to long-time girlfriend at the Santikos auditorium

Instead of stealing Christmas, the Grinch helps a man steal a woman’s heart.

SAN ANTONIO — A man gets a little help from the Grinch during epic proposal at the Santiko auditorium.

Gage Richmond reached out to Santiko Cibolo to book a private auditorium for friends and family to join in on the secret proposal he planned for his girlfriend of three years, Aubrey Kersh. Santiko offers private auditoriums for friends, family and co-workers to enjoy films and also provides the ability for people to bring their own DVD for occasions like this one.

Richmond said the first time he and Kersh watched “The Grinch Stole Christmas”, he realized Kersh was quoting “every single line word for word until the movie ended.”

So, Richmond had the grand idea to edit the movie himself and have it cut off at 50 minutes due to “technical difficulties.” He appears on the screen to solve the issue, which is fitting as he has a career in IT.

Richmond thought, “it’d be really funny if during her quoting of the movie, I just jump in. And I’m like, ‘You’re getting proposed to!’”

While he is on-screen attempting to fix the technical issue on the movie, he breaks out into a love song for Kersh that ends with the golden question, “will you marry me?”

Fortunately, Kersh said yes.

“It’s really cute and I cried,” said Kersh.

Production Manager at Santikos Paul Perez was behind the scenes recording the whole thing, and was said to be even crawling behind the seats in attempt to get the perfect angle.

“Honestly, it was just so cool to be a part of something like that,” said Perez. “It’s my job to make sure people are having a good time, and to take the extra step for someone to have a proposal was such a good feeling.”
