Houston police worked Wednesday afternoon to recover the remains of a fetus found in a drainage system.
HOUSTON — Houston police said they’re investigating after a fetus was found in the drainage system on the city’s south side on Wednesday.
Authorities said the discovery was made in a drainage system on El Mundo Street, which is in a neighborhood near where the South Loop meets the South Freeway.
They said the remains were in a spot that was hard for them to get to, so they brought in special rescue equipment to help them recover them.
Houston Police Department officials said they received the call around 12:35 p.m. when construction workers who were working on a sewer line made the discovery. They said the fetus still had its umbilical cord and placenta attached, and it appeared to be 8-12 weeks along. They said the fetus appeared to have been flushed down the sewer line.
Investigators said the sewer line serves many nearby apartment complexes, so they’re not sure where it came from, and no one came forward to claim it.
