Huntsville police on the lookout for impaired drivers this weekend

Huntsville police will have additional officers on the roads this weekend looking for impaired drivers and others not following traffic rules.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — If you’re planning to get on the road this weekend, make sure you’re not under the influence. Huntsville Police patrol and D.U.I. Task Force officers will be on the road looking for impaired drivers and others not following traffic rules, including speeders and people not wearing seatbelts.

If you see or suspect someone is drinking under the influence, HPD asks you to call 911. Be ready to give vehicle and tag information, including location and direction of travel.

When you call be prepared to give the location, vehicle description, driver description, and direction of travel for the suspected vehicle.

Also, firing guns in a “celebratory manner” is illegal, and it’s illegal to use, sell, or possess fireworks in the city limits. The rules for July 4th are the same all year. Only ground-based and handheld “non-explosive, non-aerial devices” are allowed.

Police ask you to stay safe, and if you plan to drink have a designated driver or use Uber, Lyft or a taxi to get home.
