Manu Ginobili steps into coaching as he leads a Spanish-speaking YouTube team against Mr. Beast’s squad in an exhibition basketball game.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs legend Manu Ginobili is set to pick up the clipboard and take on a new role in his post-basketball life: head coach — at least on YouTube.
No, he isn’t taking over the Spurs’ head coaching spot. He will be the head coach for a Spanish-speaking team of YouTube creators, which will face off against popular YouTuber “Mr. Beast” and his United States squad in an exhibition game.
“I hope you are prepared,” Ginobili told the YouTubers he will coach in an Instagram video. “We have to win this game. I don’t like to lose to the United States. So, Mr. Beast, be ready.”
The basketball game is coming off a challenge from popular YouTube creator Federico Vigevani to Mr. Beast that he can assemble a team of Spanish-speaking creators that could beat any English-speaking creators Mr. Beast can trot on the court.
Maybe Ginobili (who currently serves as a player development coach with the Spurs) will get the itch to coach at the NBA level someday, and hopefully, it’ll be in San Antonio and not on YouTube.
That game is set for April 25.
