‘I don’t want to see the dog back in the neighborhood’ | Northwest-side neighbors speak out after man is mauled by dog

Authorities said a man was rushed to the hospital after his face was mauled by a pit bull Tuesday.

SAN ANTONIO — After a vicious dog attack in a northwest-side neighborhood, neighbors told KENS 5 this was not the first.

Authorities said the latest incident happened Tuesday, when a man was rushed to the hospital after his face was mauled by a pit bull.

Its owner Veronica Polley is facing charges for the attack.

A neighbor said while out on a walk around a year ago, one of Polley’s dogs attacked her small dog.

“I don’t want to see the dog back in the neighborhood…there’s small children in this neighborhood,” this neighbor who does not want to be named said.

After Tuesday when a man was left bloody, this neighbor recalled her battle with one of Veronica Polley’s dogs in October 2023.

“As soon as it saw my dog it ran at us to attack my dog.”

Leaving it with injuries, the dog lived and it was reported to BCSO, but this neighbor asked Polley one thing. She asked her to keep her dog confined.

On Jan. 28, authorities said one of Polley’s dogs got out again.

“Just the sound of a man screaming calling 9-1-1,” Elijah who witnessed the attack said.

An arrest affidavit states a grey and white dog charged at a couple’s small dog as they were walking down shooter cove.

The man was able to grab the rear legs of the pit bull while the woman ran inside.

While the man grabbed the collar of the aggressive dog, he was bitten on the face and pulled to ground.

Neighbors said they saw his lip hanging from his mouth when he was taken to university hospital.

The dog was seen running onto Turnpike Turn, where Polley lives.

When authorities found her at home while looking for the pit bull, authorities said she denied owning any dogs.

The aggressive dog was finally taken by ACS and Polley was taken to the Bexar County Jail.

As for the man injured this week, arrest documents state he had to undergo surgery for the injuries to his face.

The dog owner remains in the Bexar County Jail on an $85,000 bond.
