SAN ANTONIO — A mother and son are asking for help after a fire caused significant damage to their home on the far west side.
On Tuesday, firefighters said they responded to an electrical fire at the home on Buckboard Lane. Firefighters said it was accidental.
Anthony Arguello lives at the home with his mother. He said he was looking for a job when he got the call about the fire. He said for the past year, it has just been the two of him and his mother is unable to work because she is ill.
“She needs a lot more medicine that I can’t provide,” Arguello said. “I’m on food stamps but I can barely pay for both of us.”
Fortunately, firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly. However, the power was shut off and Arguello will have to consult with an electrician to see if it’s safe to turn back on.
“I have to get a bunch of money to get a licensed electrician to pay to verify that I can still be here and get electricity back and a bunch of other permits I don’t have money for,” Arguello said.
With no electricity and nowhere else to go, they are staying at the home. However, Arguello said he is trying to stay positive. He said he is thankful firefighters were able to save his 8-year-old Chihuahua.
“That dog. I don’t know how it’s alive because the fire started right next to its bed,” Arguello said.
He said he did get a job that he will start later this month knows that will not be enough. He said the only other option he had was to reach out for help. He started this GoFundMe with a $5,000 goal to help get them back on their feet.
“I try to just keep going no matter what happens, no matter how hard it gets just the fact I need to be there for my mom,” Arguello said.
