DENTON COUNTY, Texas — Family and friends of Jesus Vazquez met in front of their Mesquite home on Friday afternoon. Maria Alvarado, a wife turned widow, was met with long hugs and tears.
Her husband Jesus, 29, died in an industrial accident on Thursday in Providence Village.
“I feel pain and sadness because I lost my husband. I will not have him anymore,” Alvarado cried.
The workers were contracted by Acadia to connect a new water pipeline to an elevated tower. Another worker was hurt in the accident and WFAA has learned he is in stable condition at a nearby hospital.
For most of Thursday into Friday water pressure in the area was low and a boil notice was issued. By midday Friday most all of the water had been restored to the area but the boil notice has continued.
The Vazquez family has more important things to worry about. The family spent the day working through funeral plans. Jesus and Maria were married three months ago. Jesus wanted to one day return to his hometown of San Luis Potosi to be with his extended family.
“He was always happy and very friendly and I want everyone to remember him with a smile.” said Maria.
The family tells WFAA there has been little contact with his employer since the accident occurred. Jesus Vazquez started working with them in May of last year.
“I just want them to explain to us what happened or what they did wrong so we can avoid another loss like this,” Maria cried.
WFAA has learned OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, was on site Friday to investigate what happened. A source believes a valve they closed off to do work broke loose.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help them with funeral expenses.
