It took the BombShell Sweets owners just about the entire day to construct Sweetsy, a 38-pound snowman made of freshly spun cotton candy.
HAYDEN, Idaho — A little rain and snow weren’t going to stop Jeff Harris and Melissa Keltz from breaking a sweet world record Saturday.
It took the BombShell Sweets owners just about the entire day to construct Sweetsy, a 38-pound snowman made of freshly spun cotton candy.
Sweetsy’s weight beat the reigning largest cotton candy sculpture, built by YouTuber Ali Spagnola in 2022, by one pound — crowning Harris and Keltz as the new champions.
“If there’s a cotton candy record, it needs to be held by cotton candy people,” Harris said.
Sweetsy was constructed of several holiday-themed cotton candy flavors: Rudolph’s Nose, Elf Wishes and Santa’s Beard made up the snowlike body, while the flavors Naughty List and Sour Gummy Worms made up the traditional coal eyes, scarf, hat and carrot nose.
Sweetsy’s construction ran into trouble after one of the cotton candy machines broke down, and they even had to borrow a generator to keep things going.
“You couldn’t have picked a day with worse weather to try something like this,” Harris joked.
Despite these setbacks, the two were all smiles as they showed off their record-breaking creation to customers.
“We get to do all of this together,” Harris said. “This is our lives. It’s pretty great.”
Because of the poor weather, it’s unclear whether Sweetsy lasted on the journey back to BombShell Sweets following the Christmas Market.
“Like Frosty, he only sticks around for one day,” Harris said with a laugh.
