IDEA Carver student hospitalized by classroom stabbing

A student was injured at a San Antonio IDEA Public school after another student stabbed them in the classroom on Friday, February 2, according to law enforcement. The San Antonio Police Department received a report of a cutting in progress around 8:50 a.m. at IDEA Carver, located on the Eastside at 217 Robinson Place, San Antonio, Texas, 78202, and dispatched nine officers to the Eastside campus.

A police spokesperson told MySA that the two male students, a 14-year-old and 13-year-old, were “involved in an altercation [where] one student cut another student with a sharp object.” Police report the wound was a “superficial, minor injury.”

KENS 5 reported additional details, including the 14-year-old student allegedly “got up from his seat walked over to another male student and cut his throat with a sharp object.” Police said the injured 13-year-old student was transported to a local hospital, and the student who carried out the stabbing was detained and arrested.

IDEA Public Schools emailed MySA a statement on the incident, reiterating that the student’s cut was superficial, while adding that the victim is in stable condition.

“At IDEA Public Schools the safety of our students is our top priority. This morning a student was allegedly injured by another student. Campus leaders immediately contacted EMS and police for support. The injured student was treated for a superficial cut and is stable. We are thoroughly cooperating with the police during the investigation. As this is an ongoing investigation, all further questions should be directed to local law enforcement,” the full statement from IDEA Public Schools reads.
