If you find this on the beach, you could get an award!

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Researchers over at the Harte Research Institute are asking for your help!

In a Facebook post, HRI officials say Pop-up Satellite Archival Tags — that they’ve been using to collect data on Cobia fish movement patterns — have been washing up at PINS.

No need for concern, this is by design!

These tags detach from the fish on a scheduled date, so they can be retrieved along with the data they record.

If you come across a small mechanical device with an antenna sticking out of it while at the beach, you are asked to the Center for Sportfish Science and Conservation at (361) 825-4126.

A little stingray told 3NEWS those who find and return the trackers will get a pretty cool shirt from the research team as a thank you!
