SAN ANTONIO — Two men in their 20s were wounded in a double-shooting early Friday morning near a downtown San Antonio bar, police said.
Law enforcement responded to the 800 block of Austin Street around 2:26 a.m. after reports of a shooting near the bar Maeve. According to police, a fight between several women inside the bar spilled outside, where multiple men became involved and gunfire went off.
One man was shot twice in the chest and taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition, police said.
A second man, who was reportedly driving away from the scene, was shot or possibly grazed in the neck while leaving the same bar, according to police. Investigators said he drove to Kirby, where he flagged down a Kirby police officer at a gas station and asked for help. He was taken to a hospital and was also listed in stable condition.
A third person was hit multiple times with a weapon during the altercation. He was also taken to the hospital.
Neighboring businesses declined to speak on the record about the shooting outside the Maeve.
Ruben Ubando, who is homeless, heard the gunshots as he was getting ready to sleep nearby.
“I heard three or four shots and then I heard about three more shots after that. I’m going to continue sleeping in the same spot, it’s not going to bother me at all. I am concerned a little bit for the people who come over here to have fun. I am concerned about this bar now,” Ubando said.
No arrests were immediately reported. San Antonio police detectives are investigating.
