In 2010, the late Chuck Norris was named an honorary Texas Ranger. And that’s not his only tie to North Texas.

Norris was also named an honorary Texan (he was born in Oklahoma) in 2017 by the Texas Senate.

DALLAS —  Legendary actor Chuck Norris has died after he was hospitalized in Hawaii following a reported medical emergency.

His family confirmed on Friday that the 86-year-old icon died Thursday morning.

He had reportedly been hospitalized on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

When you think of Norris, the obvious first thought is the hit show “Walker Texas Ranger,” which was filmed all over North Texas, including the White Elephant Saloon in the Fort Worth Stockyards, the Ridgmar Mall in West Fort Worth and Mercury Studios in Irving, just to name a few, according to the show’s IMBD page

And his North Texas ties don’t stop there. In 2010, Norris was officially designated as a Texas Ranger by then-Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Then, seven years later, the Texas Senate named him an honorary Texan (he was born in Oklahoma but lived at a ranch in the Houston area).

Gov. Greg Abbott posted a tribute to Norris on X, saying “Texas has lost a legend. All of Texas mourns the passing of Chuck Norris. He was not only a martial arts champion, action icon, and the one and only Walker, Texas Ranger. But he electrified generations of conservatives. Giving them a passion and voice to fight for the principles that make America the greatest nation on earth. He embodied the toughness, grit, and patriotism that makes Texas supreme. Rest in peace, Chuck.”
