Inmate dies at hospital more than a week after arrest, BCSO says

Officials said 34-year-old inmate Victor Cadena was pronounced dead on Sunday morning.

SAN ANTONIO — An inmate who was hospitalized following his arrest earlier this month has died, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said 34-year-old Victor Cadena was pronounced dead at 8:34 a.m. on Sunday at University Hospital.

According to BCSO, Cadena was arrested on October 4 on a charge of aggravated robbery. He was taken directly to the hospital after sustaining injuries during the alleged crime and was booked by proxy, authorities said.

The Bexar County Constable’s Office Precinct 2 is handling the death investigation under the Sandra Bland Act, while the Bexar County Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

As standard procedure, BCSO said its Internal Affairs Unit is conducting a separate administrative review.
