A 36-year-old inmate at Bexar County Adult Detention Center was found dead, sparking multiple investigations.
SAN ANTONIO — An inmate at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center was found dead Sunday morning, prompting multiple investigations, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
Officials say 36-year-old Jasmine Zamion was found unresponsive on her bunk on December 7, by a unit officer conducting rounds. On-site University Health medical personnel immediately responded and began life-saving measures.
San Antonio Fire Department paramedics and EMS also responded, but Zamion was pronounced dead at 9:00 a.m.
The Castle Hills Police Department has taken the lead on the death investigation, as required under the Sandra Bland Act, which mandates independent investigations of jail deaths. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has also been notified.
BCSO says its Internal Affairs Unit is conducting a separate, simultaneous administrative investigation—standard procedure any time a death occurs inside the jail.
Zamion had been booked into the facility on Saturday and was under medical care provided by on-site University Health staff. Sheriff’s officials reported that she had an active medical treatment plan at the time of her death.
No additional details about Zamion’s medical condition or the circumstances surrounding her death have been released. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
