Officials say 28-year-old Eric Lee Green inmate had been “experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a controlled substance” at the time of the incident.
SAN ANTONIO — That inmate that died after a medical episode at the Bexar County jail Friday morning has been identified, according to officials.
At 9:15 a.m., an inmate told a deputy that his 28-year-old cellmate, identified as Eric Lee Green, was unresponsive and needed medical assistance. Once the deputy made it to the cell, he administered Narcan — a treatment designed to reverse the effects of an opioid-related emergency — but officials said it had no effect. Additional life-saving measures were initiated until medical staff took over.
Despite efforts from multiple officials, Green was pronounced dead in the cell. He had just been booked into the jail Thursday.
Officials say Green had been “experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a controlled substance” at the time of the incident. Preliminary investigation suggests that he suffered a “medical episode compounded with withdrawal symptoms.” The medical examiner will ultimately rule his cause of death.
Green’s death marks the third such incident at the jail in 2025 so far.
