Inmate’s death in Bexar County jail cell being investigated as a homicide, according to BCSO

46-year-old Francisco Bazan’s cause of death is “being attributed to blunt force injury to the torso,” according to BCSO.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — An inmate residing in the Bexar County jail died early Wednesday morning. According to BCSO, Texas DPS is investigating it as a homicide.

At about 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, a deputy was told that 46-year-old Francisco Bazan was unresponsive in his cell. Life-saving measures were immediately taken as medical staff and firefighters arrived in the unit.

Despite efforts from multiple first responders, Bazan was pronounced dead at 3:14 a.m.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is currently determining Bazan’s manner of death, but at the moment BCSO says the Texas Rangers are investigating the death as a homicide. The cause of Bazan’s death is “being attributed to blunt force injury to the torso,” according to BCSO.

No arrests have been made as the homicide investigation continues.

Bazan’s death marks the fourth such incident at the jail in 2025 so far.
