Investigation underway after industrial fire near Tyler airport, no injuries reported

Smith County Emergency Management Coordinator Brandon Moore said crews are still in the area monitoring.

TYLER, Texas — Evacuations have been lifted after crews contained the industrial fire near the entrance to Tyler Pounds Regional Airport that broke out Thursday night.

Smith County Emergency Management Coordinator Brandon Moore said crews are still in the area monitoring, but State Highway 64 has reopened and there are no more evacuations.

After conducting air monitoring, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality determined they did not detect any dangerous levels overnight.

Officials previously asked residents on nearby county roads to evacuate as hazardous smoke filled the air, but Moore said that was no longer necessary.

Fire personnel confirmed to CBS19 the facilities that burned were used for plastic grinding and oil production.

CBS19 will update this article when more information becomes available.
