Investigation underway in Mexia after reported shooting at intersection of McKinney and Hunt

Mexia Police Department believes the shooting, which occurred at McKinney Street and Hunt Street, is related to an incident at 116 Bailey Street in Mexia on Jan. 23.

MEXIA, Texas — Mexia Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that took place at the intersection of McKinney Street and Hunt Street, according to a Mexia PD media release. There are no reported victims at this time. 

On Saturday, neighborhood residents contacted Mexia PD at 11 a.m. after hearing gunshots. 

Police reportedly found shell casings when they arrived at the scene. There was no victim at the location nor has a victim come forward. 

Officers spoke with residents who called 9-1-1 and identified a suspect based on the information gathered through conversations. 

Mexia PD said a warrant for deadly conduct has been filed.

Investigators believe the shooting is connected to an incident that took place at 116 Bailey Street in Mexia on Thursday, Jan. 23. A victim has not been identified for that incident as well. 

The Jan. 23 shooting is still under investigation by Mexia police. 

In the media release, Mexia PD stated that neither of these shootings is related to the shooting that previously happened on Jan. 18 at 705 E. Liberty Street. There is a warrant issued for a suspect related to the Jan. 18 shooting.
