Investigative journalist plans to spotlight lost Tuskegee Airmen at San Antonio book event

Attendees are encouraged to register in advance but walk-ins are welcome.

SAN ANTONIO — Award-winning NPR investigative journalist and author Cheryl W. Thompson is making a stop in the Alamo City as part of the San Antonio Book Festival’s Get Lit Author Series.

Thompson will discuss her latest book, “Forgotten Souls: The Search for the Lost Tuskegee Airmen,” during a free community event on Thursday, Feb. 26 at the Malú and Carlos Alvarez Theater. The doors open at 6p.m. with a presentation at 6:30p.m. followed by a book signing at 7:30 p.m. 

“Forgotten Souls” explores the story behind the 27 lost Tuskegee Airmen, highlighting their courage, service and lasting impact on American history.

Thompson is a journalism professor and a former reporter at The Washington Post. Her work has earned more than 40 journalism awards, including multiple National Headliners and Investigative Reporters and Editors honors.

The San Antonio Book Festival’s Get Lit Author Series brings authors to the community year-round as a way for readers to engage in events that celebrate literature and diverse voices. This event is made possible through partnerships with Alamo Colleges District, Texas Public Radio and the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum.

Attendees are encouraged to register in advance but walk-ins are welcome. Free parking will be available at the City Tower Garage at 60 N. Flores St. Guests will need to take a ticket upon entry and bring it to the event for validation.
