Is CJ Stroud injured? Texans remain tight-lipped on star QB’s ‘soreness’

Houston’s franchise QB hasn’t thrown the ball during OTAs. When asked about it, head coach DeMeco Ryans said Stroud is dealing with “general soreness.”

HOUSTON — The Texans are taking it easy with their franchise quarterback as the team eases back into practice this offseason.

Due to an apparent injury, C.J. Stroud hasn’t been throwing during organized team activities, or OTAs, which began last Wednesday, May 28.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans was asked about it on Tuesday.

“Just general soreness. We’re taking extra precaution with him. When he’s ready to go, he’ll be ready to go,” Ryans said.

When pressed about the issue, Ryans smiled and told reporters that was all he was going to say about Stroud’s injury.

According to multiple reports, Stroud is dealing with shoulder soreness, although the team wouldn’t confirm what part of his body was experiencing the soreness.

Stroud started all 17 regular-season games for the Texans last season as well as both playoff games.

While his production was down compared to his Rookie of the Year campaign in his first season in the league, Stroud still led the Texans to the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In his rookie season, Houston lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Also, during his rookie season, Stroud missed two games after suffering a head injury in a game against the New York Jets. Those are the only two games he has missed in his brief NFL career.

The details and severity of Stroud’s soreness remain unclear, as the team has been tight-lipped about what’s going on.

The team’s minicamp begins next Tuesday, on June 10.
