‘It hurts’ | Wife hopes new clue will help solve husband’s murder

San Antonio police release a photo of a car linked to Ralph Henderson Jr.’s murder.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police have released a key clue in the murder case of Ralph Henderson Jr. His wife, Alexis Johnson-Henderson, said her husband was a family man.

“Everyone doesn’t get their person, and I got my person.” Like I literally, got my person, and it got snatched,” Johnson-Henderson said.

Police said Henderson was shot and killed on June 5 at an apartment complex off Liedecke Road and Loop 1604. This week, investigators released a photo of a car believed to be connected to the shooter, possibly a silver or tan Oldsmobile Alero.

“It hurts. It hurts. It hurts,” she said through tears. “He was my motivation. They took a big part . Not only am I hurting, I am angry. I am confused.”

On the day of the shooting, Johnson-Henderson said she heard several gunshots. When she ran outside, she found her husband lying on the ground.

“I got maybe to the third or fourth step, and I looked down and he was laying there,” she recalled. “I don’t know how I got down the stairs. But when I got down there, it was awful.”

Henderson was rushed to the hospital, doctors said he lost a lot of blood. His wife said she had just told him she loved him and urged him to fight.

“I don’t think I was out of the ICU a minute before the doctor told me he passed away,” she said. “It was the hardest thing for me to accept.”

The couple had known each other most of their lives and were married in November.

“They didn’t take a thug away,” she said. “They took a family man away, a man who got up and worked two jobs,” his wife said.

Police said witnesses described the suspect as wearing all black, including a black mask, and carrying a rifle.

The day of the shooting, an 11-year-old girl walking with her mother nearby was also injured by bullet fragments. Police said she is going to be okay.

Johnson-Henderson said she’s holding on to hope that the new clue will bring answers.

“I want whoever did this to feel my pain,” she said. “I want to see your tears. I know that is ugly to say, but I want to see your tears. I want you to experience what I am experiencing.”
