‘It just left me heartbroken’ | Wife of man killed on far north side desperate for answers and justice

The body of Juan Carlos Benn, 53, was found on June 5 in a drainage area in the 13200 block of Blanco Road.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for credible information leading to an arrest in the murder of a man found dead on the far north side in June.

On June 5, law enforcement was dispatched to the 13200 block of Blanco Road where they discovered the body of 53-year-old Juan Carlos Benn. The victim’s body was found in a drainage area covered with a metal plate. Police indicated signs of foul play. Police are led to believe Benn was killed between 9 p.m. on June 4 and 9 a.m. the following day.

Noemy Sanchez-Benn, the victim’s wife, learned of the tragic news alongside her mother-in-law two days later when they were out eating lunch.

“It just left me heartbroken,” Sanchez-Benn said. “My first thought was ‘how could they leave my husband there like he was a dog.’”

Sanchez-Benn said authorities informed her that Benn was stabbed to death. No suspects have been identified at this time as the investigation continues.

“We only had a year together as husband and wife and I was supposed to spend a lifetime with my husband and I was looking forward to that,” Sanchez-Benn said.

Pierced with pain, Sanchez-Benn’s grief is also filled with fond memories of the qualities she admired most in her late-husband. She loved his smile, the way he exuded confidence when walking into a room and his many hobbies.

“How much he loves his family and how much he was trying to make the right changes in his life. He was very into his faith and going to church and I just loved that,” Sanchez-Benn said. “He was a huge Cowboys fan. He loved to draw. He loved to do tattoos. He would build things.”

But her focus now is on securing closure and justice. She has faith in the community to help.

“I want justice for my family, for his family. We all want to know what happened to him,” Sanchez-Benn said. “I hope this interview reaches the right people that know something and that they’re able to come forward and share with the detectives to be able to bring closure to my family to myself.”
