Old mattresses, broken record players and a wide assortment of dirty furniture fill a large piece of property off Melbury Forest and Robin Forest drives.
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Betty Washington has lived in the neighborhood off Melbury and Robin Forest drive in Bexar County since the 1970s. She loves the area but she’s not a fan of the massive property right next door that’s become a site for illegal dumping.
“If I could just get somebody to come out here and pick the trash up,” Washington said.
The area of concern sits in unincorporated Bexar County. A ‘No Dumping’ sign stand tall listing the state fine of $400-$2,000.
Washington stressed she’s fed up with the growing heap of trash that includes items like old mattresses, televisions, record players and a variety of dirty and broken furniture.
“Somebody’s living room, that’s what it looks like,” Washington said. “This is unnecessary and it’s uncalled for.”
Washington noted it feels like officials she’s reached out to haven’t taken her concerns seriously. However, representatives with Precinct 4 Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert’s office have been in contact with Washington.
“I’ve called a lot of people and I’ve gotten a lot of runaround,” Washington said. “The County commissioner did come out here. Any help is better than nothing.”
According to Commissioner Calvert’s office, the team has forwarded the issue to Bexar County Environmental Services, which issued a notice of violation on Tuesday, although attempts are still being made to locate the property owner.
Meanwhile, Washington continues to wait for the mess to be cleaned up.
“It makes me feel terrible because I pay taxes, I’m a senior citizen, I shouldn’t have to deal with stuff like this.”
