Management at the Heights at 515 apartments said the heat from the chiller systems will turn on Friday, prompting frustration from some residents who have children.
SAN ANTONIO — Tenants living at the Heights at 515 apartments will have to wait until Friday for the heating system to turn on as frigid conditions are forecasted throughout the week.
“I know that I’m not the only one but we’ve begging them for a weeks to get it switched over,” said Hannah, who wished to be identified by only her first name. “Like last night, I think it was 45 degrees in my bedroom. It was very cold.”
Hannah is among other tenants caring for little ones, trying to keep warm not just outside but inside as well. She stressed this issue is not new.
“We have our fireplace in our unit but it doesn’t heat the whole unit. It’s very frustrating, I have a toddler,” Hannah said. “I have a neighbor down below me that has a newborn and so I know that it can’t be easy and I know also last year when this happened, we had to go stay with my mom for a couple weeks because it took them that long to turn on the heat.”
On Wednesday, apartment management sent a notice to residents saying the chiller systems are scheduled to be turned on Friday the 10th. On-site management couldn’t confirm how many tenants are impacted at the 96-unit apartment complex. Management did say portable space heaters are being offered to residents if they request one. Apartment officials did not indicate why it’s taking until the end of the week to activate the heater system.
“We know when we move in that there’s a chiller system and that they’ll turn the heating on when it gets real cold,” said Ron, another tenant of the Heights at 515 apartments.
Ron, who also requested us to use only his first name, showed us one of the apartment-provided space heaters. He noted he’s had zero issues with his apartment regarding the cold temperatures. Ron said his first-floor apartment his well-insulated.
Meanwhile, KENS 5 will monitor whether the heating system is kicked into gear on Friday.
