‘It was definitely shocking’ | Neighbors react after juveniles go on graffiti spree in San Antonio neighborhood

Police say there were 20 victims, including two vehicles that were spray painted with religious and racially defamatory slurs.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police say vandals went on a graffiti spree in a north-side neighborhood, targeting more than 20 victims.

Police say they are investigating this as a hate crime.

Neighbors say they are shocked and disappointed someone would do this to their neighborhood and property.

“It was definitely shocking to wake up to this morning,” said Stephen Larson, victim.

Stephen Larson says he woke up to a knock on his door from his neighbor, telling him that his home had been vandalized.

“It’s very unusual. I hadn’t seen anything like that in this neighborhood,” said Larson.

Police were called out Saturday around 7 a.m., to the Castle Hills Forrest neighborhood on George Road, near Northwest Military Drive.

Police say they took several reports of graffiti on several vehicles, fences and homes using two colors of spray paint.

Police also say the majority of the graffiti had crude depictions and graffiti signatures, including religious and racially defamatory slurs.

“It just makes San Antonio look bad collectively, you know, take pride in your community,” said Jon Carrizal, Owner of Jetstream Pros Pressure Washing & Parking Lot Stripping.

We found good Samaritan, Jon Carrizal, who owns a local pressure washing company, who says he heard about the graffiti and just wanted to help for free.

“I’m just a citizen trying to help San Antonio continue to be clean, and have a welcome inviting environment, because it does say a lot when you have tags or graffiti, and people get intimidated by it,” said Carrizal.

Carrizal says he helped a homeowner get spray paint off his car.

“The whole side of his car was defamed and had some explicits on it, so I just left there and I was headed out, and I saw this and I was like let me go ahead and stop,” said Carrizal.

Police say there were 20 victims and multiple juvenile suspects, Larson says he hopes they can be caught.

“If they can find a trail or figure out who caused it, maybe figure out why they targeted or if they were targeting specific houses.  If it was just random, I don’t know, that’s what I wanna know,” said Larson.

San Antonio police are asking for anyone with information about the incident, to contact SAPD’s Property Crimes Unit at 210-207-8326.
