‘It would have hit me in the temple’ | Rock thrown at SA man’s windshield as he drove home from work

Stephen Suwannasung says when the rock his his windshield, there was a flood of emotions from shock to anger, then the adrenaline kicked in.

SAN ANTONIO — It was all caught on dashcam video. A man standing in the middle of the road, threw a rock the size of a baseball at a man’s windshield.

This all happened Sunday morning as he was driving down Rittiman Road.

Stephen Suwannasung says when the rock his his windshield, there was a flood of emotions from shock to anger, then the adrenaline kicked in.

“By the time he was close enough to me to react to anything, his arm was already cocked back to throw,” said Suwannasung.

A rock was launched at Suwannasung’s truck.

“Slammed on break, threw it in park, got out of the car, confronted the man. He took off running,” he said.

Suwannasung, who has a license to carry a concealed weapon, got back in his car and chased after the man. He says his adrenaline was pumping.

“I got out of my car, firearm drawn, as he’s running. I said ‘Stop or you’re going to get shot.’ The individual then stopped turned around and said ‘Good I don’t want to live anymore,’ then he ran away,” Suwannasung explained.

Suwannasung says he realized deadly force wasn’t the best option.

“He ended up fleeing down a drainage ditch and running into the woods,” said Suwannasung.

Police were called and Suwannasung says they searched for the man for about an hour.

When the rock hit his windshield, Suwannasung says glass went everywhere and the rock nearly went through the windshield but the tint stopped it.

“It would have hit me in the temple. Darn near perfect shot,” he said.

Suwannasung says he is thankful his wife and son, Kai, were not in the vehicle.

“I’m glad I didn’t have my five-year-old in the car because his car seat was covered in glass,” he said.

Suwannasung is also hopeful police can make an arrest with the help of the dashcam video.

“It’s not going to be immediate justice but good things come to those who wait,” he said.

Suwannasung is now working to replace his windshield.
