‘It’s my only transportation’ | $2,000 scooter stolen from 61-year-old SA man battling cancer

Michael Shepherd lives with lymphoma that has spread to his lungs. He says walking a short distance is hard enough. Without his scooter, travelling is exhausting.

SAN ANTONIO — Between 4:30 and 9:30 the morning of December 1, Michael Shepherd says he left his scooter in his driveway on the 100 block of Shadywood Lane on the north side.

“It’s my only transportation,” Shepherd said. “The bike would lift my spirits. It was parked over there on the other side of that trailer. And it was gone. I don’t know if it was like professionals, because you need a key to start the thing.”

He says he normally leaves his scooter in front of his house. But he thought it would be safe in his driveway. He’s owned the $2,000 scooter for less than a year. Just one week without it has been challenging for Shepherd.

“It was hard,” he said. “I mean it’s only probably less than a half a mile. That was very hard. But on my bike, it’s a two, three-minute trip.”

Shepherd says he filed a police report. And asked neighbors if they’ve seen anything.

“I asked the guy across the street, he has cameras but he said he didn’t catch anything over here,” Shepherd said.

So far, no leads have been made.

“I try not to get down on myself too much because of the cancer, there’s nothing I can do, I leave it to God,” he said.

Shepard has created a GoFundMe to raise funds for a new scooter. If you would like to donate, click the link here.

Relying on his faith and hoping for the best, Shepherd has one request.

“Bring my scooter back please, no questions asked,” he said.
