Mary is just hoping for less violence in the Alamo City in 2025.
SAN ANTONIO — Mary is preparing for New Year’s Eve celebrations. But she’s a little worried about her family’s safety after what happened just down the street Monday night.
“I’m already starting to cook. My grandkids and my family’s coming,” she said. “It’s so sad because the kids, they’re innocent bystanders, they don’t know what’s going on and these adults, these crazy adults, they’re just shooting whenever they want.”
San Antonio police responded to a shooting around 10:30 p.m. on Leal Street near West Martin Street. Authorities say a mother and her two children were getting ready for bed when someone began shooting through a fence. One of the bullets penetrated the wall of a trailer, striking a 9-year-old boy in the knee.
The boy was taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown.
Alejandro Lopez is frustrated with the gunfire that see says is all too common in the neighborhood. He feels for the victim’s loved ones.
“It’s ridiculous,” Lopez said. “It could have been one of my own you know, grandkids or whatever, it’s tragic what’s going on.”
As for Mary, she’s praying for less violence in the Alamo City come the New Year.
“I hope 2025 will bring peace to us and to all the families.”
