“They were able to get footage of him getting on the bus, so we know for sure he got on and made it to San Antonio.”
SAN ANTONIO — A Silver Alert has been issued for 82-year-old Urbano Zamarripa, who vanished during a Greyhound bus trip from Laredo to Dallas over the weekend. His family and police believe he may have accidentally gotten off the bus in San Antonio and has now been missing for more than two days.
Zamarripa was last seen Friday night after boarding a Greyhound bus in Laredo around 9:50 p.m., according to his family and police. He was expected to arrive in Dallas by 6 a.m. Saturday. When family members went to meet him at the Dallas station, he never showed up.
“We were told he boarded the bus, and Greyhound footage confirmed that,” said Priscilla Muniz, Zamarripa’s granddaughter. “Police later spoke with the driver, who told them he saw my grandpa get off the bus in San Antonio and walk away from the station.”
Muniz said the disappearance is completely out of character for her grandfather, who regularly travels alone from Mexico to visit family in Texas.
“It’s unreal almost, because we’ve never had this issue before,” she said. “He always makes it safely.”
Zamarripa does not carry a cellphone and was not traveling with luggage, Muniz said. He had only his wallet, some identification documents, and a small amount of cash. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a long-sleeve blue shirt and a Warner-branded trucker hat.
He also has a medical condition — epilepsy — though Muniz said it has been under control for several years. Still, the family is concerned that confusion or a medical episode may have contributed to his disappearance.
“He might’ve gotten anxious or panicked, and something could have triggered it,” she said.
The Silver Alert was issued. Zamarripa’s family has traveled to San Antonio and begun posting flyers downtown and in surrounding neighborhoods. They’ve also received a few tips, including a tip he may have been dropped off in Lockhart.
“If anybody is able to just give him that hospitality and let us know where he is — please do,” Muniz said. “He’s an older man, and he needs help.”
Anyone who sees Zamarripa or has information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the San Antonio Police Department or you can contact his granddaughter Priscilla Muniz at 469-826-7402.
