‘It’s very dark’ | ACS seeks help identifying man who left dead dog inside suitcase in San Antonio neighborhood

San Antonio Animal Care Services seeks public help to identify a man caught leaving a suitcase with a dead dog inside.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Animal Care Services is asking for the public’s help identifying a man caught on video dropping off a suitcase in an east-side neighborhood. Investigators later found a small dead dog inside the suitcase.

ACS is working to determine how the dog died but wants to speak with the man who abandoned the animal.

The homeowner whose camera captured the incident spoke to KENS 5. She asked to remain anonymous but hopes someone can help identify the man.

“It was just so nonchalant,” she said. “He just came by and dropped it like he was dumping a bag of fast-food trash—like nothing.”

The incident happened around 7:40 p.m. Saturday near Nolan Street and St. John in the Dignowity Hill area.

Investigators said the dog was a small terrier mix and was not microchipped. The homeowner told KENS 5 that no one in the neighborhood has recognized the man.

“It was unusual because most people whose animals pass away just call 311,” she said. “But he was trying to conceal the animal.”

If you recognize the man, you’re urged to call 311.

“There’s no reason whatsoever to put an animal in a suitcase, dead or alive,” the woman said. “To me, it’s very dark and very bad.”
