The Jewish Federation of San Antonio is working with SAPD to keep San Antonio residents safe.

SAN ANTONIO — Authorities in Australia are investigating a deadly attack that occurred during a Jewish holiday gathering as an act of terrorism, according to international officials.

Australian officials say more than a dozen people were killed and dozens more injured when two attackers targeted a crowd celebrating the first day of Hanukkah. The incident is being described as an antisemitic terror attack. Police say one suspect was killed at the scene, while the second remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

In response, the Jewish Federation of San Antonio says it is coordinating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies out of an abundance of caution. San Antonio police confirmed they have not identified any specific or credible local threats connected to the attack.

Federation leaders emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant while also reassuring the community that there is no indication of immediate danger in the San Antonio area.

In a statement, the Jewish Federation of San Antonio said, in part, “We will not allow acts of terror to diminish our joy or dictate how we celebrate our faith and traditions.”

The organization is encouraging community members to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Officials in Australia continue to investigate the attack, and authorities say more information is expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
