John Jay High School teacher arrested, accused of improper relationship with 17-year-old student

Investigators say surveillance video and witness statements helped uncover the alleged months-long relationship between a teacher and student.

SAN ANTONIO — A John Jay High School teacher is behind bars after San Antonio police say he had an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student that allegedly went on for months.

According to an arrest affidavit, 38-year-old Chad Allen Rodriguez was arrested Saturday and charged with improper relationship between educator and student, a second-degree felony.

Investigators with SAPD’s Special Victims Unit say the case came to light after another student reported seeing Rodriguez alone in a classroom with the victim on May 14. According to the affidavit, the student looked through a classroom window and later told school staff what they saw.

Police say the victim later told investigators she met Rodriguez during the 2025 school year. The affidavit identifies Rodriguez as the student’s astronomy teacher and coach.

According to investigators, the student said the relationship began with eye contact and flirting inside the classroom before becoming sexual.

The arrest affidavit states, Rodriguez and the student had multiple sexual relations on and off campus.

Investigators say Rodriguez and the student exchangd phone numbers and sent explicit photos and videos to each other.

The affidavit further states surveillance video from the school showed the student entering Rodriguez’s classroom alone and remaining inside for about 10 minutes before leaving.

It’s unclear if Rodriguez is still employed with Northside Independent School District.  We reached out to district leaders and are awaiting a response.
