Judge to set trial date for nephew accused in stabbing death of Las Palapas Founder Ron Acosta

A judge is set to decide on a trial date for David Ruiz, accused of fatally stabbing his uncle back in July.

SAN ANTONIO — The accused killer of Las Palapas founder Ron Acosta, found stabbed to death at his Stone Oak home this summer—could soon receive a trial date.

David Ruiz, Acosta’s nephew, faces murder charges. On Friday, a judge could set a date for his trial.

Back in July, Ron Acosta was found stabbed to death on his garage floor. Investigators say Ruiz was visiting and Acosta had invited him to his home on Reata Trail.

That’s when records say Ruiz turned on his uncle, stabbing him multiple times and leaving him to die.

Ruiz was found several hours later in a neighboring county and extradited back to Bexar County. He’s still in jail with a bond set at $250,000.

Court records say a judge is supposed to set Ruiz’s trial date at 9 a.m.
