SAN ANTONIO — Testimony has concluded in the murder trial of a man accused of killing a San Antonio mother in a west-side hotel room.
Prosecutors say Albert Casanova is charged with murder in the death of Briann Hernandez, a 30-year-old mother who was found dead in May 2023 at an OYO motel near Lackland.
During the trial, jurors were shown police body camera footage from inside the motel room, where Hernandez was discovered.
Family members told KENS 5 the relationship between Hernandez and Casanova was new, and they were unaware she may have been in danger.
“I feel like people want to victim shame,” said her cousin, Christina Hernandez. “We didn’t know what she was going through. This was a new relationship.”
She also shared a message for others in similar situations, calling the case a wake-up call to leave unsafe relationships before it’s too late.
Casanova has pleaded not guilty. Police say they had prior interactions with him before his arrest in this case.
Court proceedings are expected to resume, with a verdict possible as early as this week.
