SAN ANTONIO — It’s been two years since anyone has seen or heard from Kassandra Gonzalez, but her family says they’re not giving up hope.
Gonzalez, who was 30 years old at the time of her disappearance, was last seen on Aug. 11, 2023. Her sister, Alyssa Ballard, says she was last spotted leaving her brother’s apartment on Silver Sands Drive near Blanco Road with a friend. Since then, there have been no signs of her.
“She was the one to keep the family together,” Ballard said. “That’s something I miss about her. She always made everyone laugh, and she was so giving.”
Ballard says it wasn’t until nearly a week later that the family realized something was wrong. A coworker from Cricket Wireless called to report that Gonzalez hadn’t shown up to work for three days, something completely out of character.
That prompted the family to report Gonzalez missing to the San Antonio Police Department. But after two years, investigators still have no answers about her whereabouts.
Ballard says her sister had been having issues with an ex-boyfriend and had recently talked about filing a restraining order against him. Although Gonzalez had previously disappeared for short periods, Ballard says this time felt different, especially because Gonzalez is a mother of four.
“That’s a big red flag for me—that she didn’t keep in contact with her kids,” she said. “Especially the oldest ones, who always communicated with her.”
Ballard hopes someone in the community might come forward with information.
“If she’s out there, just let me know that she’s OK,” she said. “But if she’s not, I just want closure—to be able to put her to rest.”
Despite the time that’s passed, Ballard says she refuses to give up on her sister.
“She was not just nobody. She was my sister. She meant something to me,” Ballard said. “So I have to keep going and telling people that she’s still missing.”
