HOUSTON — Pitcher Justin Verlander gave an epic speech that Houston Astros fans will never forget after the team advanced to the American League Championship Series Wednesday night.
The Astros were in full celebration mode after eliminating the Minnesota Twins in the American League Division Series. The Astros defeated the Twins, 3-2, winning the series, 3-1.
The team is now heading to their seventh-straight ALCS, a run second only to the Atlanta Braves run in the 1990s which saw them appear in eight straight league championship series.
During the post-game celebration, Verlander counted off the team’s ALCS appearances after being called upon by manager Dusty Baker.
“Alright, well, this is. It’s one of those seasons, you know. Nothing went our f___ing way early. We battled through injury. Yeah, we f___ing grinded. I wasn’t even f___ing here,” Verlander said. “I’m happy to be back. Yeah. Seven f___ing time. Seven f___ing time. Alright. Don’t take that for granted. On seven, everyone pop these _____ (champagne bottles). One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven!”
The Astros popped their bottles of champagne before the star pitcher could even finish his count, soaking everyone.

As the Astros pitcher mentioned in his speech, he has not been with the team for the entire season. Verlander signed as a free agent with the New York Mets this past offseason.
However, the Astros brought him back in a deal with New York just before the trade deadline in August.
Verlander spoke with KHOU 11’s Jason Bristol during the celebration and put the team’s run into perspective.
“Funny that one of the most analytic-forward teams in baseball…something that makes this team so special is not measurable,” Verlander said.
