GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office announced that a juvenile was taken into custody Saturday, a day after a deputy’s vehicle was burglarized.
A rifle with a suppressor, a ballistic vest, and a deputy’s duty belt were reportedly stolen from an unmarked law enforcement vehicle on Friday.
“We are urging whoever is in possession of these items to return them immediately,” GCSO said in a social media post. “These are law enforcement-issued items and pose a significant threat to public safety if in the wrong hands.”
The sheriff’s office said the burglary happened Friday and that they recovered fingerprints from the vehicle.
Here’s what they say was taken from the unmarked car:
- 300 Blackout AR equipped with a suppressor
- Ballistic vest
- Deputy’s duty belt
Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, GCSO posted to social media saying they got credible information about the location of the stolen gun and vest. They staked out a house in Texas City and stopped a person who left the house. They said the driver told them that the rifle and vest were inside the house.
Authorities cleared the house and searched inside, where they said they found the rifle, vest and other stolen property, including a handgun.
A juvenile was taken into custody.
