GOOD DOG! Federal officers say more than $2.2 million worth of cocaine, heroin and fentanyl was found hidden inside a vehicle at the Del Rio Port of Entry.
DEL RIO, Texas — A major drug bust at the Del Rio Port of Entry kept a dangerous mix of narcotics from reaching U.S. streets, according to Customs and Border Protection.
CBP officials said officers recently seized more than $2.2 million worth of cocaine, heroin and fentanyl hidden inside a passenger vehicle at the Del Rio International Bridge.
The seizure happened March 10 when a CBP officer referred a 2016 GMC Yukon driven by a 32-year-old U.S. citizen to secondary inspection.
After a K-9 inspection and a nonintrusive scan, officers found packages hidden inside the vehicle containing 117.33 pounds of suspected cocaine, 23.14 pounds of suspected heroin and 11.5 pounds of suspected fentanyl, officials said.
CBP said the drugs have an estimated street value of $2,279,351.
“This triple threat seizure of three powerful hard narcotics reflects the firm resolve of our officers and their tireless dedication to our border security mission,” Port Director Lilliana Flores said in a statement.
CBP seized the drugs and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations arrested the driver and is now handling the investigation.
