LONGVIEW, Texas — A Texas DPS K-9 unit has been pronounced dead due to medical issues.
“Duke” is a narcotics detection K-9 unit who was stationed in Longview. He served for six years before his passing.
“More than a working dog, Duke was a steadfast protector, a loyal partner and a beloved member of the DPS family,” a spokesperson for Texas DPS said. “His presence left a lasting mark — both in the field and in the hearts of those who knew him.”
Duke’s health rapidly declined due to medical issues involving his liver and kidneys. He was laid to rest with his handler, Trooper Jacob Muehlstein, by his side.
