Karnes City man arrested after woman escapes days-long assault, deputies say

Authorities say a woman escaped and reported a days-long assault, leading to the arrest of a Karnes City man now facing multiple charges.

KARNES COUNTY, Texas — A Karnes City man is facing multiple charges after deputies say a woman escaped a days-long assault and reported the incident to authorities.

According to the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began on March 11 after deputies were notified of a family violence incident at a home on North Bond Street.

Investigators say the suspect restrained his live-in partner and assaulted her over the course of several days, causing serious bodily injury.

Authorities said the woman was eventually able to escape and contact law enforcement, leading to the investigation.

Deputies identified and arrested Terrance Benton, of Karnes City, on March 13.

Benton is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful restraint and assault involving impeding breath or circulation.

During a search of the home after the arrest, deputies say they found a large amount of suspected narcotics, and additional charges are expected.

Officials credited local partners, including the Thriving Hearts Crisis Center and Guadalupe Regional Medical Center’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, for helping support the victim.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have been victimized to contact the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continues.
