Karnes City man wanted after admitting to road rage shooting and high-speed chase, officials say

Ferrer is considered armed and dangerous, and officials urge the public not to approach or attempt to apprehend him.

KARNES COUNTY, Texas — Officials say a man who was mistakenly out on bond led deputies on a high-speed chase following a road rage shooting Monday afternoon, according to the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).

Deputies were dispatched around 4:11 p.m. on Nov. 24 to the area of County Road 356 and FM 792 after receiving reports that shots had been fired during what officials described as a road-rage confrontation.

While deputies were on their way, the 911 caller continued updating dispatchers, reporting that the suspected shooter fled at a high speed down FM 792 toward Helena. Additional updates indicated the suspect’s vehicle turned onto State Highway 80, accelerating to nearly 100 mph and passing vehicles in oncoming lanes while heading toward Nixon, Texas.

KCSO alerted law enforcement agencies in Wilson and Gonzales counties, as well as the Nixon Police Department, asking officers to attempt to intercept the suspect.

Nixon police officers spotted the vehicle not long after and initiated a pursuit. KCSO deputies continued toward the area to assist. The chase eventually ended when the suspect vehicle was stopped and the driver was detained without further incident.

Investigators with KCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division responded to Nixon, where they say they obtained a full confession from the suspect. According to the sheriff’s office, the man admitted to firing a pistol from his vehicle, fleeing the scene, discarding the firearm while driving in an attempt to hinder the investigation, and attempting to evade Nixon police.

The suspect, identified as Abraham L. Ferrer of Karnes City, was taken into custody by Nixon PD and magistrated in Gonzales County. He faces charges of deadly conduct – discharge of a firearm, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.

KCSO says Ferrer has since been released from the Gonzales County Jail on bond. Arrest warrants have now been issued in Karnes County for the remaining offenses, and he is currently wanted by authorities.

Ferrer is considered armed and dangerous, and officials urge the public not to approach or attempt to apprehend him.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the KCSO Dispatch Center at (830) 780-3931.
