Stuff the Bus is a partnership between KENS 5, Communities in School San Antonio, and HEB to equip students for the first day of school
SAN ANTONIO — We’re in back-to-school season and KENS 5 wants to help alleviate the burden on your wallets by Stuffing the Bus.
It’s a school supply drive we’re doing with HEB and Community in Schools San Antonio to make sure your kids have everything they need.
Kathy Becker is going into her 30th year of teaching at Shepherd the Hills Lutheran school.
Becker is getting ready for the first day of class and sees first hand how these donations make a difference.
“For kids that can’t afford things, I just think they get so excited when they see new things and I’ve been in education my whole life and I still get excited if I see new supplies,” she said.
Communities in Schools San Antonio is working with 35 HEBs across San Antonio Saturday to gather school supplies and money donations.
Its President and CEO Jessica Weaver said the donations will go to over 160 schools across the city
“If a teacher just needs something or recognizes a student needs it any time in the year, any student in that school can get those school supplies,” said Weaver.
This year’s goal is to raise $200,000 in cash and $400,000 worth of school supplies.
