KENS CARES: Road to Recovery program helps cancer patients get transportation to receive their treatments

The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program provides free rides for people with cancer to get to their medical appointments and treatment.

Lack of transportation can be one of the greatest barriers to receiving timely treatment and quality cancer care. Millions of Americans delay or have difficulty getting needed medical care each year due to the lack of available and affordable transportation to treatment. Family and friends may help, but over the course of several months, they may not always have the time or resources to provide every ride.

That’s why a successful transportation assistance program can play a vital role in helping improve the lives of people facing cancer and their families. The Road to Recovery program removes barriers to cancer treatment by providing people facing cancer with transportation to treatment and medical appointments.

The volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their personal vehicles to give people with cancer free rides to treatment. The program is provided at no cost to people facing cancer. Volunteering with the American Cancer Society, you can help patients have fewer barriers to completing their treatment and receiving follow-up care, resulting in the best possible outcome.

If you are in need of a ride to cancer treatments or would like to volunteer to give a ride, you can learn more about the Road to Recovery transportation program at cancer.org/roadtorecovery or by calling 1-800-227-2345.
