Officials said Hastings was an “invaluable resource” during the July 4 flood disaster and aftermath.
KERR COUNTY, Texas — Officials with Kerr County announced the death of a prominent county engineer Monday evening in a press release.
The press release states the Kerr County Commissioners Court was notified of the passing of Charlie Hastings, who dedicated decades to public service, including the last 12 years with Kerr County.
“His loss is deeply felt by our family of Kerr County employees and throughout our entire community as we continue to heal and rebuild from last summer’s devastating flood,” the press release states.
Officials said Hastings was an “invaluable resource” during the July 4 flood disaster and aftermath. They described him as an uplifting presence for the emergency responders working during that time.
“He embodied the very best of what we hope for in our public servants: professional excellence, genuine congeniality and unwavering teamwork,” officials said in the press release.
Those close to Hastings said he was a mentor to many young people in the community, and several of the infrastructure projects he worked on and problems he solved helped make the community stronger.
“On behalf of Kerr County, we extend our most sincere condolences to his family and the many friends he had in every corner of our community. Kerr County, Texas, and our 324 employees stand with you during this difficult time,” the press release reads.
Since the July floods, Kerr County has continued to provide mental health services for all county employees, coordinated through its Victim Services and Human Resources offices.
