Kerrville city leaders hold special city council meeting discussing recovery efforts, city response

KERRVILLE, Texas — Kerrville city leaders are participating in a special meeting going over flood recovery efforts and the latest on the city’s response on Monday.

City Manager Dalton Rice said 161 people remain missing, according to Texas DPS, who has been providing them with the official state numbers. Rice said he will be getting current numbers from Kerr County and will email them to the council sometime Monday.

Assistant Manager Michael Hornes mentioned obstacles emergency personnel have encountered at Nimitz Lake because of the substantial amount of debris in the water.

Officials also said if residents or volunteers go and dump trash and debris themselves they will be required to pay a fee. The city is working with the Texas Department of Emergency Management and said if you leave the debris in the right of way, workers should be stopping by to pick it up for free.

Council member Brenda Hughes said some staff members are receiving threats following the deadly floods, prompting them to ask for extra security from the state.

Officials are expected to renew the Mayor’s Disaster Declaration. In addition they’ll be extending a suspension on all open records related to flooding.
